As you know after you have worked for the City 1 year you are eligible for their long term disability plan. This has an elimination period of 90 days which means the benefits are not payable until you remain disabled for 90 days. That's a long time without a paycheck and you can exhaust your sick leave quickly. We have a plan designed to pay you during the 90 day waiting period your city plan has. This plan pays in addition to your sick leave and will pay 50% of the benefit if you are out on a work related disability. City of Downey Maintenance Employees Association

This plan has a 90 day elimination period for accident and sickness coverage and benefits are payable to age 65.
